Cape Town, July 10, 2025 – A violent road rage incident at the intersection of Koeberg Road and Voortrekker Road in Maitland has left authorities urging the victim to report the matter to police for a formal investigation. The altercation, which occurred on June 26, 2025, around 3:30 PM, involved a taxi driver allegedly stabbing another motorist, prompting widespread concern after a graphic video of the incident circulated on social media.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident began when the taxi driver, affiliated with the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA), was observed driving recklessly. Reports indicate the driver was cutting off other vehicles and using a cellphone while behind the wheel. Frustrated by the erratic behavior, a motorist confronted the driver, leading to a heated exchange that quickly escalated into violence. The video, shared widely on platforms like X and Facebook, shows the taxi driver attacking the motorist with a knife while the victim lay on the roadway.

Cape Town police have confirmed they are aware of the video but have yet to receive a formal complaint from the victim. Authorities are appealing to the individual to come forward to initiate a criminal investigation. No arrests have been reported at this stage, and the investigation remains pending the victim’s statement.

The incident has ignited public outrage, with social media users expressing shock at the level of violence on Cape Town’s roads. The video, first shared by Fight Against Crime SA (FACSA), has drawn attention to the dangers of road rage and reckless driving in the city.

Police are encouraging anyone with additional information about the incident to contact their nearest station or provide anonymous tips via Crime Stop at 08600 10111. The investigation will proceed once the victim or witnesses provide formal statements to authorities.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety and the need for de-escalation in confrontations between motorists. Authorities have reiterated calls for drivers to exercise patience and report reckless behavior to law enforcement rather than engaging directly.
