WATCH: Knife-Wielding Suspect Shot During Robbery Intervention in Phoenix, KZN

Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal – A suspect armed with a knife was shot after he assaulted a reaction officer during an attempted robbery on Friday afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) personnel were conducting a routine patrol when they encountered an ongoing robbery. The officers observed a victim, who had sustained a shoulder injury and was bleeding, surrendering personal items to the single perpetrator.

Upon intervening, the suspect stabbed one of the reaction officers in the right arm amid the ensuing confrontation. A supporting officer then fired a single shot, striking the suspect in the side.

The knife involved in the incident was retrieved from the scene. As of 14:21 on Friday, medical assistance was being administered to both the injured officer and the suspect.
