On May 5, 2025, at approximately 1:30 AM, a violent robbery occurred at Engen Garage on Turton Eislen Street, Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. A group of armed suspects, one carrying a rifle and others with handguns, confronted a petrol attendant while he was preparing to serve a customer. The suspects forced the attendant to the ground and ordered him to instruct his colleagues to open the shop door.

Once inside, the robbers used explosives to blow open the drop safe, stealing an undisclosed amount of cash. They also ordered arriving customers to exit their vehicles and lie on the ground.

During the robbery, a male customer, aged 20-25, attempted to flee by reversing his car and was fatally shot by the suspects. His 21-year-old female passenger was also shot and initially hospitalized but succumbed to her injuries on May 7, 2025. Paramedics declared the male victim dead at the scene.

Daveyton South African Police Service (SAPS) received a complaint about the robbery and has registered cases of murder and business robbery. The investigation is ongoing, with no arrests reported as of May 7, 2025.
