VANDERBIJLPARK – A recent under-11 rugby match between Laerskool Risiville and Laerskool Kollegepark in the Vaaldriehoek descended into chaos as spectators and assistant coaches engaged in a physical altercation on the sidelines. The incident, which occurred last week, has sparked widespread concern due to a video of the brawl circulating rapidly on social media.
The Valke Laerskole Rugbyvereniging, the organizing body for primary school rugby in the region, has referred the matter to the Valke Rugbyunie for further investigation. As an immediate response, three individuals involved in the incident have been banned from attending the semifinals of the local primary schools’ rugby league, which are scheduled to take place today at Hoërskool Dr. Malan. The league final is set to be hosted at the same school next week.
Ettienne de Lange, the chief executive officer of the Valke Rugbyunie, was contacted for comment but had not responded by the time of publication. The incident has raised questions about the growing trend of violence at rugby matches in the Vaaldriehoek, prompting calls for stricter measures to ensure the safety and sportsmanship at school-level sporting events.
The Valke Laerskole Rugbyvereniging has not released further details about the individuals involved or the specific circumstances leading to the altercation, pending the outcome of the investigation.
