In a remarkable display of public solidarity, South African social media users have raised over R38,000 to buy two cows for KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as a token of appreciation for his bold stance against corruption. The crowdfunding effort, spearheaded by controversial X influencer ChrisExcel, surged past its initial R35,000 target in just four days, reflecting widespread admiration for the commissioner's recent exposures of high-level misconduct.

The initiative stems from Mkhwanazi's explosive press conference on July 6, 2025, where he accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of colluding with criminal syndicates. To substantiate his claims, Mkhwanazi presented evidence including text messages and details of an alleged payment made by a suspect to influence investigations. These revelations have ignited national discussions on political interference in law enforcement and prompted the African National Congress to label the issues as matters of grave concern.

In response to the potential risks from his disclosures, security has been heightened outside Mkhwanazi's home. Supporters have affectionately nicknamed him "Lord Mkhwanazi" for his unwavering commitment to combating corruption, with many viewing him as a rare beacon of integrity within the South African Police Service.

ChrisExcel, whose real name is not publicly emphasized in his online persona and who boasts over 3.3 million followers on X, launched the drive on July 6, framing it as a grassroots way to honor Mkhwanazi's bravery. The funds are set to be used to purchase the cows from a local black farmer and arrange delivery through a black-owned business, underscoring a focus on empowering community enterprises. Progress updates shared on X showed the total climbing steadily, reaching halfway by July 8 and exceeding expectations by July 10.

While the gesture has been widely praised, some observers note that police regulations may prohibit Mkhwanazi from accepting personal gifts, suggesting alternatives like presenting the cows to his family. ChrisExcel, often described as a self-proclaimed "Black Twitter President" known for his savage commentary and support during tough times, has a history of defending Mkhwanazi; earlier in January 2025, he rejected a R30,000 promotional offer aimed at smearing the commissioner's reputation.

Broader support for Mkhwanazi has emerged from various quarters, including the Xolani Khumalo Foundation, which publicly backed him following the press conference. The fundraiser highlights deepening public frustration with systemic corruption, as evidenced by rapid contributions from ordinary citizens tired of political meddling in justice. As of July 11, 2025, plans to deliver the cows are underway, symbolizing collective gratitude for an official seen as prioritizing public safety over personal gain.
