READ: Fatal Crash in Mount Edgecombe Leaves Two Dead and One Critically Injured

A tragic road accident occurred in Mount Edgecombe, KwaZulu-Natal, on the afternoon of August 5, 2025, resulting in two fatalities and one person in critical condition.

The incident involved a white Mazda 323 that veered off the roadway, collided with a tree, and subsequently split into two sections before coming to rest down an embankment.

Emergency services from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene around 18:07 following reports from passing motorists who observed the vehicle lose control. Upon arrival, responders found the driver with only minor injuries, while two passengers were declared dead at the site.

A third male occupant, who sustained severe injuries, was carefully removed from the debris by paramedics from RUSA and KZN VIP.

According to statements provided to RUSA officers, the driver had been traveling at high speed from Durban toward Everest Heights in KwaZulu-Natal when the loss of control occurred.

The driver also acknowledged consuming alcohol before the crash. No further details on the identities of those involved or the current status of the critically injured individual have been released as of August 7, 2025.
