Durban - A suspect wanted for the attempted murder of two police officers was killed in a gun battle with authorities at the KK Hostel in KwaDabeka on July 30, 2025. The confrontation also resulted in two other suspects being wounded and arrested, while a search continues for additional individuals connected to the group.

The events began on July 29, 2025, when two officers were patrolling Danisa Road in the Bester area and came under fire from a group of at least ten armed individuals. The officers returned fire, causing the attackers to flee, and sustained only minor injuries requiring hospital treatment.

Following the ambush, law enforcement launched an immediate operation to locate the perpetrators. Intelligence gathered the next day directed officers to a room in the KK Hostel where four suspects were concealed. Upon approach, the suspects initiated gunfire, leading to an exchange of shots.

During the clash, one suspect was shot and died from his injuries. Three others attempted to escape via windows, but two were apprehended nearby with gunshot wounds and transported to a medical facility under guard. No officers were harmed in the shootout.

Authorities recovered four firearms from the scene, including one pistol with 93 rounds of ammunition found initially, followed by three additional weapons discovered through further investigation. The group is also suspected in a separate murder case in Inanda.

The operation remains active as police pursue remaining suspects believed to be part of the larger group involved in the initial attack.
