On April 13, 2025, a devastating head-on collision occurred on Commissioner Road, just outside Reiger Park, involving a VW Polo hatchback and a Toyota Quantum taxi. The crash resulted in the deaths of all three male occupants of the Polo at the scene.

Eight taxi passengers sustained injuries: four, including the driver, were critically injured, three were in serious but stable condition, and four had minor injuries. The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded rapidly, using the Jaws of Life to free trapped drivers, underscoring the crash's severity. All injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause, with no further details disclosed yet. The tragedy has heightened local concerns about road safety, particularly given the involvement of a taxi, a vital but often high-risk mode of transport. The incident has sparked calls for improved traffic regulations and infrastructure in the area.

The Reiger Park collision underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures. As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of three lives and hopes for the recovery of the injured, while advocating for measures to prevent future tragedies.
