Somerset West, May 6, 2025 – An armed robbery at the Boxer store in Somerset Crossing and a subsequent pursuit crash in Gustrouw, Strand, have heightened community safety concerns. The incidents, believed to be connected, occurred earlier today, prompting swift police and security responses.

Earlier today, armed suspects stormed the Boxer store in Somerset Crossing, firing at security personnel during the robbery. The South African Police Service (SAPS) responded promptly, apprehending one suspect and conducting a thorough sweep of the premises to ensure no additional suspects remained. Several suspects fled the scene and remain at large. Police investigations are ongoing to identify and capture those involved.

In a related incident, a getaway vehicle suspected to be linked to the robbery overturned on Hassen Khan Avenue, Gustrouw, Strand, during a chase by a security response team. The vehicle collided with the pursuing security vehicle, resulting in injuries to the suspects. The injured were transported to a hospital under police guard, and investigations continue to confirm the connection to the Somerset Crossing robbery.

The incidents underscore ongoing challenges with armed crime in the region, with previous robberies reported at Somerset Crossing, including a 2023 cellphone store heist. Fight Against Crime SA (FACSA), which reported the events, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to SAPS. The community is encouraged to stay informed as investigations progress.

Due to the recency of the events, further details are limited. SAPS is expected to provide updates on suspect identities, motives, and the condition of the injured. FACSA’s role in community safety advocacy highlights the importance of collective efforts in crime prevention.
