A 64-year-old man was arrested in Mossel Bay on July 9, 2025, for the alleged brutal murder of his sister, which occurred in Kimberley in 2020. The suspect had been evading law enforcement since the incident.
The arrest was the result of a coordinated effort by the Northern Cape Tracking Team, led by Sergeants Cedric Nelson and Given Mokoena. They received assistance from Da Gamaskop SAPS, Mossel Bay SAPS, and the Western Cape Sea Border Unit. Acting on intelligence about the suspect's whereabouts, the team apprehended him in the Heiderand area of Mossel Bay.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam confirmed that the suspect was transported back to Kimberley. He is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court soon.
Northern Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended the inter-provincial partnership that led to the successful apprehension.
