Pinetown, May 12, 2025 – A Malawian truck driver, following a reported dispute with his employer, stole a truck and went on a destructive spree this afternoon. The suspect drove recklessly through Pinetown, colliding with multiple vehicles and striking a pedestrian.

Police, including Umlazi K9 units, pursued the suspect, who rammed into a police vehicle during the chase. To stop the threat, officers fired at the truck, wounding the driver. The vehicle came to a stop on Underwood Road.

ALS Paramedics arrived to find the roadway closed by the South African Police Service (SAPS). The scene showed several damaged vehicles, some with bullet holes. The stolen truck, heavily damaged from the crash and gunfire, contained the suspect, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Advanced Life Support Paramedics stabilized him before he was transported to a hospital under police guard.

A family vehicle, caught in the incident, had five occupants who sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were treated on-site by ALS Paramedics and taken to a nearby hospital for further care.
