Centurion, Gauteng, May 1, 2025 — South African police have confirmed the recovery of the white VW Polo (registration JCL 401 FS) used by three officers who went missing on April 23, 2025. Constables Boipelo Senoge (20), Cebekhulu Linda (24), and Keamogetswe Buys (30) were last seen leaving a petrol station near Johannesburg while traveling from Free State to Limpopo. The vehicle, found in the Hennops River, marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.

The officers’ bodies, along with two others, were recovered from the river between April 28 and 29. On April 30, police divers retrieved vehicle parts, including bumpers and a reflective vest, suspected to belong to the VW Polo. A large metal object, located 4km from the N1, was identified and has now been confirmed as the officers’ vehicle on May 1, 2025.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola stated that the recovered VW Polo is critical to determining the cause of the officers’ deaths, which remains under investigation. Authorities are examining whether the incident was an accident or involved foul play. The police continue to seek public assistance for any information that could aid the investigation.
