Pretoria – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has reported significant developments in the ongoing search for a missing VW Polo believed to be carrying three police officers. Search and rescue teams have recovered vehicle parts, including a front and rear bumper, as well as a police reflector jacket belonging to one of the deceased officers, raising hopes of locating the vehicle.
The operation, centered around a 4km radius from the N1, involves a collaborative effort from SAPS divers, City of Tshwane divers, SAPS Special Task Force (STF) divers, and Search and Rescue South Africa. Divers have detected a metal object submerged in the area, which they suspect could be the missing vehicle. However, it remains unclear whether the object is obscured by debris, and further investigation is underway to confirm its identity.
Forensic experts are working to determine if the recovered vehicle parts belong to the VW Polo in question. The families of the three officers have been informed of these findings and are being supported during this difficult time.
The operation has drawn significant resources, with SAPS Crime Intelligence, the Cyber Crime Unit, detectives, Lyttleton Community Police Forum (CPF), traffic officials, Fidelity Secure Fire, and Vision Tactical Private Security all contributing to the effort. Authorities remain committed to uncovering the truth behind the officers’ disappearance.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, SAPS spokesperson, urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to proceed. Further updates will be provided as new information emerges.
