Cape Town, May 11, 2025 – South African cross-country champion Kabelo Mulaudzi secured his first Absa Run Your City 10km podium finish in two years, winning the race in a personal best of 27 minutes and 49 seconds. The 28-year-old, representing Boxer Running Club, triumphed in a highly competitive field during the 10th anniversary of the popular race series held on Mother’s Day.

Mulaudzi outpaced Lesotho’s Kamohelo Mofolo, who finished second in 27:53, and veteran Stephen Mokoka, who claimed third in 28:06. The race, one of the fastest in Cape Town’s history, saw Mulaudzi take home the R30,000 winner’s prize.

Coached by Richard Meyer, Mulaudzi executed an aggressive strategy, pushing the pace from the start. Despite an early surge from Mofolo that briefly unsettled him, Mulaudzi regained control in the final 2km to secure the victory. He described the race as tactical, with a strong chasing pack led by Mofolo.

Mulaudzi dedicated his win to his late mother, who passed away when he was 14, using her memory to fuel his final sprint. After a challenging 2024 marked by injuries and a 20th-place finish in last year’s Cape Town race, the Alexandra-based runner celebrated a remarkable comeback. His 2023 season had been a breakthrough, with three race wins.

Looking ahead, Mulaudzi is targeting the Absa Run Your City race in Durban in July, aiming to improve on his Cape Town performance.
