Cape Town – On Saturday, November 8, 2025, at approximately 06:42, a 25-year-old man driving a Porsche Taycan was involved in a collision with a traffic officer's vehicle on FW De Klerk Boulevard in Cape Town.
The incident began when the traffic officer, conducting routine patrols, noticed the Porsche approaching at high speed from behind. As the officer attempted to change lanes, the Porsche clipped the traffic vehicle and continued driving away. This prompted a high-speed pursuit, during which the officer managed to force the Porsche to stop near Century City.
Upon stopping, the driver underwent a breathalyser test, which revealed he was nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit. He then contacted a friend to come to the scene. The friend, also 25 years old, arrived and was subjected to testing by authorities, leading to his arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The initial driver was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence, reckless and negligent driving, fleeing the scene of an accident, failing to comply with a lawful instruction from an officer, and causing damage to council property. The Porsche Taycan was impounded in accordance with the City's Traffic by-law.
The second individual was arrested specifically for drunk driving. Both arrests took place at the scene.
This event occurred amid ongoing enforcement operations by the City's services. In the week leading up to the incident, traffic officers recorded 63,403 offences, made 34 arrests including 27 for driving under the influence and two for reckless and negligent driving, impounded 202 public transport vehicles, and executed 2,258 warrants of arrest. Law enforcement officers made 170 arrests and issued 7,422 notices for by-law and traffic infringements. Metro Police arrested 87 suspects, with 20 for driving under the influence, and issued 2,585 notices. The Public Emergency Communication Centre handled 1,539 incidents during the same period, including 92 fire calls, 95 assaults, 35 domestic violence cases, and 46 motor vehicle or pedestrian accidents.
Authorities noted similarities to a previous incident in May, where a yellow Porsche was involved in a collision on the same road.
