Rundu, Namibia – A tense encounter on Namibia's B10 highway near Rundu in the Kavango East Region nearly resulted in a head-on collision between two heavy vehicles, as captured by dashcam footage from one of the trucks involved.

The incident unfolded along the B10, a vital tarred corridor that facilitates cross-border freight transport connecting Namibia with neighboring Angola, Zambia, and Botswana, and runs close to the Kavango River. The route serves as a primary artery for regional commerce, handling substantial volumes of truck traffic daily.

According to the dashcam recording, the driver of the lead truck was traveling at a consistent speed with the vehicle's high-beam headlights activated. In the distance, the headlights of an approaching side tipper interlink truck became visible. The lead driver promptly switched to low beams to reduce glare.

As the vehicles closed in, the oncoming side tipper interlink veered unexpectedly across the center line onto the wrong side of the road. In response, the lead truck driver executed a sharp swerve to the left, veering off the paved surface onto the adjacent gravel area. The off-road terrain proved sufficiently level to allow the driver to retain full control of the vehicle, bringing it to a complete and safe halt without incident.

The footage, which has since circulated online, documents the entire sequence: the steady approach, the light adjustment, the sudden drift of the oncoming vehicle, and the evasive maneuver that prevented a potential catastrophe. While the video does not conclusively show whether the two trucks made minor contact during the evasion, no such impact is evident in the recording.

No injuries were reported among the drivers or any passengers in either vehicle following the event. Details on structural damage to the trucks remain unavailable from the footage or accompanying reports.

The B10's tarred surface, combined with the even gravel shoulder, contributed to the successful avoidance, highlighting the infrastructure's role in such high-stakes scenarios. The highway's status as a freight lifeline underscores the frequency of heavy vehicle operations in the area, where visibility and adherence to lane discipline are critical for safety.

Drivers and logistics professionals throughout southern Africa have commended the lead truck driver's response. They noted that his immediate awareness and composed handling of the steering under duress averted what could have escalated into a severe accident, potentially preserving multiple lives.
