Bloemfontein, South Africa – On Thursday, July 3, 2025, a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery occurred on the N8 highway near Bloemfontein, heading toward Botshabelo, close to the Mandela View area. The incident, reported around 7:05 PM SAST, led to the complete closure of the highway as emergency services and law enforcement responded to the scene.

According to preliminary reports, a CIT vehicle was targeted by armed suspects who used explosives to blow open the vehicle. The attack caused significant disruption, with the N8 highway remaining closed to traffic as authorities investigated. Free State police spokesperson Loraine Earle confirmed the incident, stating that law enforcement officers were on-site, supported by other emergency services.

Acting provincial EMS manager Sidney Dywili issued a public advisory, urging motorists to yield to emergency vehicles, exercise caution in the area, and avoid the N8 highway until further notice. No details have been released regarding the amount of money stolen, the number of suspects involved, or any injuries sustained during the heist.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is actively investigating the incident, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available. Authorities have not yet reported any arrests in connection with the robbery.

This heist adds to the ongoing challenge of cash-in-transit robberies in South Africa, which often involve heavily armed groups and sophisticated tactics, posing significant risks to public safety and security personnel.
